My homage to Miami Murals

We all know my love for the street artists in Miami. I was running errands around Miami and I found several that I really liked, including this one, which caused me to stop my car, get out and look at. And I wasn't the only one. I looove it. It's in Wynwood, on North Miami Ave, just south of 29th Street:

Right next to it, was this one:

Down on 25th Street:

You can see this one from 195, headed away from the beach:

And to get out of Wynwood, El Hombre and I found this one on the beach, on Lincoln Road between Collins and Washington:

I think it would be really cool to wander about the Design District and Wynwood with my camera, discovering these things

South Miami Art Fest

This weekend I was really excited to go to the Greek Festival because the one in Charlotte is really cool. Man. This one had nothing on it. So we ditched out the festival and drove to South Miami for the art festival. It's set up like the Carnival on the Mile, only with no stages and much smaller. I like both of these festivals because they are the opposite of the Coconut Grove Art Festival - smaller and less crowded.

We are in "perfect weather" season of Miami, with temperatures reaching into the upper 70s and low 80s, which makes walking around outside, not only bearable, but actually enjoyable.

Which is why I was perplexed to see these on sale for $200:

I also thought it was interesting that there were fake orchids, considering you can throw a rock and hit an orchid stand in this city (even on side streets)

There were alot of artists hawking traditional landscapes, and the overly colorful caribbean-influenced art that I am not crazy about. But there were some "pop art" pieces that caught my eye, including this artist, who designed this year's Carnival on the Mile poster:

There was also this artist, who had an interesting use of mixed media on canvas. I liked this picture because it had a cat:

This one caught my eye, I forget the artist:

And speaking of cats, this one was hanging with his owner:

But the South Miami Art Fest wasn't all about cats and art, there was food too:

And puppets!

And if you want to adopt a greyhound (I'm not poking fun, my friends have adopted two from this organization) then you could talk to the Greyhound Rescue Mission:

My Miami Artsy Side

Has come out again. I know it's been a while since I've blogged but things have been really busy :) So, today I ventured out to North Beach to the 35th annual Festival of the Arts and saw some really cute things, ate some really good food, and tried not to get blown away along the shores of the Atlantic. It's nice that this neighborhood has this every year and it's also nice it's not as crowded as the Grove's art festival. A good day was had by all and a good mix of people turned out.

More from the Art Walk

It's great sharing this blog and having two perspectives on what we see throughout the city. The same can be said for the Art Walk. Usually Christina and I are together but sometimes we break off and find things that catch our eye. This past Art Walk was a lot of fun and featured some great art. But I noticed there was more of a human element this time around as well. Here are some pics:

These were really cool but I can't remember which gallery I snapped them in. I love how colorful they are:

This one was a bit more political and timely:

I thought this one was really interesting and neat:
He wasn't part of any display - just hangin' out playing with some rusty dirt. But he was adorable!

Art Walk - Tomorrow!

The Wynwood Art Walk is tomorrow and I'm super excited! Haven't been in a while and am really looking forward to it. Here are some old pics that I never got around to posting from an Art Walk way back in June:

The Bamboo Garden

Here's the bamboo garden changing at night. My favorite piece of Miami downtown art. The audio picked up the creepy ambient sounds of a car driving by and an airplane:

Hot Nights in the Bamboo Garden

These wonderful, delightful neon poles called the Bamboo Garden are in my neighborhood and I think they are my favorite installment of random downtown Miami art. Sometimes it's fun to dance dance dance with the lights. It's a good time. You should try it.
