Lincoln Road Market

I have made a resolution to go to the beach more often. I love the beach but never go, and I am always totally relaxed afterwards. On a recent foray, I decided to walk around Lincoln Road because I was waiting to meet El Capitan and El Pedrino, and I had forgotten how much I like to peruse the stands on Sundays. But my question to you, great and infinite blogosphere, which weekend is it that all the artists come out and display alongside the fruit stands?

In the meantime, here's some photos:

This spice stand is new, and I love that it's there. I also love the way it smells... mmmm

Cutest thing ever!

Yesterday I was at the German place on Lincoln Road and saw a woman walking 7 or 8 miniature greyhounds. Not only were the greyhounds adorable but they were all wearing black Obama sweaters. A photo is coming shortly :)

The Reclamation Project - South Beach

The other night I was wandering around Lincoln Road and was amazed in a good way at the Reclamation Project. In all of the Starbuck's that line the Road and in some other storefronts such as the Lincoln Theatre, there were these little cups with mangrove seedlings which are part of the Reclamation Project to show what Miami Beach was like before all of the building and concrete took over. This project is really neat and it's good to see that someone is taking the initiative to take on a project of this magnitude. Hopefully this project will be successful and this will be the beginning of a real movement in Miami. The seedlings will be planted along Biscayne Bay once they're ready. Here are a few photos:

Scenes from a South Beach Halloween

Halloween has long been one of my favorite holidays, but ironically, for the two years that I've lived here, I've missed Halloween on Lincoln Road (from which I lived half a block away, BTW.)

Last year was my first experience on Lincoln Road and it was crazy packed, worse than the grove. But it's hilarious. This year el hombre and I dressed as ninjas and hit South Beach to scope the freaks, geeks, ghosties and ghouls. Ironically, the place that took Pacific Time's spot aptly describes Lincoln Road Halloween festivities:

You see all sorts of costumes, we all know that. The most prominant was the slutty pirate and the drag queens:

Speaking of being political, this is a strange sign outside the Wolfsonian:

Española Way was more quiet and pretty:

And of course, what's SoBe without people ridin' dirty?

Or a random sumo wrestler looking for a worthy foe (he didn't see me because of my ninja-like skills!)

Return of the Cluck

I'm back from the land of no internet! And what's a better way to come back than pictures of a run-in with Mr. Clucky on Lincoln Road?

Mr. Clucky with the paparazzi.... note HE doesn't smash camera's or hit cars with umbrellas.

He even posed for a picture for me! (Note the awesome outfit in the window behind the cluckinator)

Wandering the Beach

Last night, I hit up the Beach and wandered to Lincoln, Washington and made a stop at the Shelborne for some karaoke delights. The surprise of the night was when Alonzo Mourning walked in and hung out in the back listening to the throngs of people sing along to I Want it that Way, Gold Digger and Wanted Dead or Alive. We first stopped at Hofbräu München Bierhall, that wacky restaurant/German bar up towards Lenox and then headed to Jazid on Washington which had an unusually high cover (booo) and then instead of paying, headed straight for karaoke entertainment. On the way there, in front of Cameo, there were two HUGE guys dressed in head to toe white suits and everyone was taking their picture but I couldn't get a good angle. Plus didn't know who they were nor did I really care. But all in all it was a fun night wandering the streets of the Beach on a balmy Saturday night. Here are a couple of pics:

At the German Beer Hall - they have liters of beer (see below) and "boots" of beer which are ENORMOUS:

Beachy Sundays

So I met one of my cohorts on Lincoln Road on Sunday for shopping, food and scoping the strangeness. Despite the occasional Monsoon-like weather it was relaxing, and I always love checking out the market, even if it's the off-season microversion.

We both admired the flowers that bloom on this tree. And also the air potatos (which are illegal to grow, plant and sell in Miami-Dade)

You find a mix of venders on Lincoln Road on Sunday:

Like people selling fruits and veggies. This particular vendor was not any better of a deal than the grocery. Boo to that, since I wanted to buy avocados.

But you can always find orchids!

The Chabad House has always had this booth, but it was abandoned because of the rain. It never fails to amaze me that Miami Beach is essentially a sin den, but there is a very strong, devout jewish population there. It's an interesting dichotomy.

My cohort made a new friend...

The rest of Miami has roosters, Miami Beach has flamingos. Go fig.
